Alone!

I am officially alone after 6 1/2 years! Fran started her Mother's Day Out today and will attend 2 days a week. What am I to do? The list is never ending but I am celebrating today with a long run and a lunch date with my husband.

...and a few sweet memories of Will's first day of preschool in Helsinki and Alex's in Grapevine, both at 2 1/2 years of age. They do grow up fast! Enjoy every minute.

Bike Club

Just one of the few crazy things our kids do with the neighbors in the evening! Full speed, down the hill, without breaks, looking everywhere but straight ahead...it is a wonder we made it through the summer without stitches, staples, or a cast.

Kinder & 1st

First day of school...

Devil's Waterhole

With no time left, we visited the last water hole on our list for this summer. Devil's Waterhole is on the north shore of Inks Lake. Cliff jumping, canoe rentals, and camping keep this destination busy on any given day. Of course my 2 boys had no problem climbing to the top and jumping over and over and over. Daddy even found the courage to jump from the tippy top rock and I held my own jumping in sync with 'Alex.' Fran kept herself entertained doing the back float and watching us all make fools of ourselves.

The lake is great and camping facilities look awesome. We will be back with our new tent soon!

Final Days!

Only 4 more days until school starts...

Rather than getting acclimated to the "early-to-bed and early-to-rise" routine, we are taking full advantage of staying outside late and playing with friends. I may regret it later but these kids are only young once! Today we hit our favorite swimming hole with our best neighbor buds.

Even though I can't wait to have a few days to myself soon, I will sure miss these special times without strict routines...and yes, my daughter is officially 1/2 mermaid!

Belated Birthday Balloons

Bedtime 11:00 pm. Sleep in a tent all night. Morning alarm 6:00 am. Throw the kids in the car with a breakfast picnic. Head to Lake Travis for a Hot Air Balloon flyover...not easy, but well worth it! Kids were even in a good mood. Guaranteed nap 2:00 pm.

Bat Crazy!

A notable summer night in Austin includes heading downtown to watch 1.5 million Mexican free-tailed bats emerge from under Congress Ave bridge. Unfortunately for us and the wet spring we were blessed with, there is an overabundance of mosquitoes this year. Now the bats don't have to rush out each evening to fight for food.

We still tried to witness the "black tornado" that you can sometimes see as they escape...not tonight! We arrived early to get a good seat on the lawn with bubbles, glow toys, and umbrellas (lots of bats mean lots of guano). We played, waited, played, waited, and finally around 9:10 you could barely see the little fliers casually pass a street lamp. Nothing to ooh and aah over but at least we tried.

34 no more!

The best way to enjoy my new house (tent) and bed (sleeping bag) that I received as gifts for my birthday is to have a Camp out themed party! Of course the kids had just as much fun as I did. The s'more cake was a hit...I heard "this is like building Legos" and "its just like the farm" and "this is the BEST cake ever!"

What's a camp out without bats? To Congress we will go then hopefully the kids will fall fast asleep in the tent so I can sneak into my bed :)

Waco Road Trip

We headed north on I-35 to visit the Mayborn Museum in Waco, TX. Their temporary exhibit is the Lego Castle Adventure. From building stations to castles and dragons made out of Legos, the kids were in dreamland. The entire museum is great, something I was not expecting. 16 themed discovery rooms kept us busy for 5 hours. The kids would have stayed longer but I knew the drive home was going to be long...not to mention I took the "back roads" and it added a few extra hours! Oh well, another great summer day!
